Description

This walk is part of the multi-day walk from Coevorden to Ommen of the Vechtdal route . The route follows part of the Pieterpad, the most famous long-distance walking route in the Netherlands. Along the way you will get to know Coevorden, Gramsbergen and Hardenberg.

Historic Gramsbergen
You start your walk at Coevorden train station. The first part of the route takes you through the green landscape of Drenthe and Overijssel to Gramsbergen. Along the way you cross to the other bank of the Vecht. Gramsbergen has been inhabited since prehistoric times. In the Cultural Historical Information Center Vechtdal you can view various utensils found in and around this town. During the time of the Hanseatic League, Gramsbergen, together with a few other cities, was connected to the important trading city of Deventer, but Gramsbergen was not really involved in the Hanseatic League. The town never really prospered during the Hanseatic period.

Along the Vecht to Hardenberg
A little outside Gramsbergen you cross the Vecht again and then follow the course of the river to Hardenberg. Especially in the summer months, all kinds of fun events are organized in Hardenberg. So be sure to take a look at the pleasant center of Hardenberg.

Home or continue tomorrow?
The end point of this walk is at Hardenberg train station. Here you can board the train home, but you can also choose to look for a nice place to stay in Hardenberg. Then you can walk the second part of the Vechtdal route the next day. On the second route you continue your journey from Hardenberg to Ommen.
